Kittens!
Some friends of ours found 3 little kittens in their yard a few days ago & there was no momma cat around, so they decided to take them in and save them. They took care of them for a couple days, and asked if our girls wanted a project of trying to raise the kittens. They are so little that their eyes were just open, and they have to be bottle fed.
It is going great so far, Cecille loves being their mother and the other girls enjoy helping out also, but she does most of the work. They're starting to get more active now & walking around their box.

Cecille's Necklace
Cecille crocheted this necklace the other day all by herself. She says it's a neck warmer necklace. It could be used as a headband also. She came up with her own stitch all on her own, I have no idea how she figured it out with no teaching!

Animal Update, Photos
Our daughter Cecille wanted to take some photos of the animals out back since our assortment has changed.
The two new baby potbelly pigs are the biggest change, but we also have a duck in with the chickens, and the goats have moved over to live with Elizabeth; our big potbelly pig.
Sydella loves the chickens and being a big helper and finding their eggs.

Fall Photos
Today we went to get our fall photos taken. We went to the Grant County Park, but didn't see anything nice there for the photos, so we went down the road to another park. We found a great location right away for our photos, and everyone cooperated except for Joslyn today.
It was a great day and great weather out today, I hope this weather sticks around for a while longer.

Cecille's Homemade Broom
Cecille disappeared outside for a while earlier, when she came back in she had something she had made with her. She took some of the dead grasses from the hill and a stick she found and used her old string to tie them together into a broom. She even decorated it with the string.
She really liked surprising us with this, we had no idea what she was doing or where she got the idea.
Pretty nifty for a 9 year old, huh?

Fall Leaves
The girls love when the leaves start falling off of the trees.
They like to rake them all into big piles to jump in.
This year they tricked the neighbor boys into helping them rake! Jack and Sam helped rake the leaves in the front yard into the piles.
Now, if we could only trick them into moving the leaves to the compost area!
Here's Cecille; being the boss. She loves bossing everyone else around, we're trying to break her of that.

BBL Hike 09/30/12
We went over to our local park for more Sunday Exploration to relax after the work we accomplished yesterday on our barn. (more about that later)
We had a friend's son with us on our trip, and the neighbor boys also wanted to come along - making for a total of SEVEN kids on this hike! Everyone was well behaved and had a good time. They all explored around and tried to be the first to spot things along the trail.
We hiked around the north side of the creek and found where they hold wilderness survival training. We took a few notes on what we saw! The girls thought the shelters were cool and had ideas about how they were going to build their own survival shelters in the woods out back.
Sam with his "Bur-Gun" he made from items found on the hike. I think he was about to eat a bur...
This is the largest shelter we found, it was quite nice.
Joslyn was picking sticks up off of the ground to be like the older kids. A "ribcage" shelter is behind her.
This piece of wood had a deep hole burned into it, I am not sure of its exact purpose, but surely it served one.
Another shelter, deep in the woods.
The girls thought these trees played tricks on your eyes and made it fun to play tag there.
Cecille sitting on vines hanging from a leaning tree.
Allix on an old dead tree trunk.
An odd nest under a bridge we hiked to. We assume high water in the spring brought a few large limbs up there, and the birds just continued building on that... Otherwise, that was one strong bird!
One of the remaining salt springs at Big Bone Lick. Salt and Sulphur come up together and it doesn't smell the best!
Jack with his Garter Snake.
Joslyn wasn't afraid to hold the snake either!
Cecille found a walking stick by the museum.
